現在社會處處競爭，優勝劣敗，在競爭的過程中，雖然要盡量不踩到別人，但踩到別人仍是不能避免的事，除非你站在那裡不動，否則你就有可能踩到別人。
屈原在楚國為官，深獲楚懷王信任。有天屈原正在草擬一項規章，奸臣上官大夫靳尚看到了，請屈原以他的名字提出，算是他草擬的，但為屈原所拒。靳尚懷恨在心，常進讒言，屈原終被貶官，後投汨羅江自盡。我國民間端午節包粽子的習俗就是為了紀念屈原。
幫助朋友作假當然不可，但是有時幫助別人成功，或將功勞分一點給別人，並非壞事。當時屈原如邀靳尚一起草擬那份規章，並以兩人名義提出，其後的結局可能就大不相同。
人生的旅途上要出人頭地，競爭在所難免，競爭過程中會踩到別人，有所成就時會遭嫉妒，這都是很自然的現象。但如何少踩到別人，如何減少別人對自己的嫉妒，則是有學問的。有人處理人際關係非常細膩，有人則大而化之。但過分細膩會瞻前顧後，過分粗糙又容易製造障礙。
其實細膩與粗糙都只是表象，重要的是，競爭過程必須取之有道，以狡詐害人的方法取得勝利，君子不為。君子就像銀子一樣，雖然很重，但看起來卻不重，所以，做人要時時懷著謙卑的心，競爭有成就時，更要心懷謙卑、低調。
謙卑的人、肯與人分享成果的人，常會有更多成功的機會。
